It appears that President Rafsanjani has had his Ayatolla credentials removed in an apparent demotion for his views towards the opposition. This was probably done to unseat him as the head of the assembly of experts as I believe you have to be a grand Ayatolla or an Ayatolla to be able to appoint or remove the SL.
