Twitterers who are spreading disinformation

If you follow #iranelection you may have seen tweets from an account iran115, who at first may seem to be another pro-reformist twitterer. However once you go to his website and begin reading more about him you realize that this is far from the truth. He has made a blacklist that includes many important and honest twitterers. On his list are Austen Heap and Niteowl aka JShahryar, both are highly respected pro-reformists. Austen Heap started helping the protesters by creating the program haystack, which allows unfiltered internet access to the protesters in Iran. Niteowl was the original publisher of the Green Brief, and now runs his own blog where he post information about what is going on in Iran. Why would either of these people be IR agents as iran115 says they are.

Since Niteowl has started posting on his own blog, I have asked if I could begin publishing the Green Brief so that everyone on WWP can once again have a summary of the day’s news from Iran. I, like Niteowl, have gathered all my information from reliable tweets and haven’t included any information that could not be confirmed.

Protests/unrest

1. Protests once again took place at Mashhad University, with several injuries reported. Several of those who were injured at the university on Thursday have gone missing.

2. In protest to the arrest of their fellow classmates, Students at Tehran Polytechnique did not attend any of their final exams. The students are negotiating with their professors, requesting that all of this week’s exams be cancelled in an act of protest.

Iran’s working class is almost ready to explode. Workers go months without pay while union leaders who dare complain get the standard Khamenei treatment: holy arrests, holy beatings, holy torture and long, holy jail sentences.

Suppose the opposition could count on the working class support for a general strike. Suppose the regime lost in prime recruiting base for Basilj. Alas the opposition will never be trusted by workers until it addresses bread and butter issues.

In trouncing President Khatami five years ago, Ahmadinad and Khamenei showed how to play the class card ("Reformers don’t care about you. We do.") So long as post-election brutality was directred at the "snotty" middle class, the working class wasn’t much bothered.
