RAHANA – Prison officials, despite being aware of a water contamination and the possible necessity to shut off the water supply, have left for the Nowrooz holidays.
According to a RAHANA reporter, daily life has become very challenging for the prison’s large population. It has been reported that the water has been shut off after a raw sewage leakage into the prison’s water system.
Gohardasht’s water is untreated and is supplied from an underground water well located below prison level. The prison is not connected to the city’s water system.
Starting on March 9, the drinking water at Wards 4 & 5, as well as the women’s ward, became highly contaminated and non-potable. The water was nebulous, dark green in color and malodorous.
